Steve Holt
Carpenter Foreman
TJ Wies Mid-Missouri Office
With TJ Wies since October 2006
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
I like coming into a new project, working with the Project Manager and Superintendent putting a plan together on how we will tackle the task at hand. Framing walls and seeing a building come together. Seeing the finished product knowing I had apart in it.
What brought you to the construction industry and what made you stay?
I like working with my hands and seeing the finished product knowing that I built it. What made me stay was good pay, insurance, and retirement benefits.
What is your favorite project you have worked on?
The Federal Courthouse in Jefferson City, MO. The job was on a metric system; it was very challenging. I learned a lot about the security they go through to keep judges and people safe in a federal building.
What would you tell another person interested in joining the industry?
It is hard work but very rewarding. You get the training you need through the union’s apprenticeship program. The pay is good. You get insurance for you and your family. And if you stick with it you can retire with a good income.
Why did you choose to work for TJ Wies?
I had worked for other contractors in Mid-Missouri, and I worked with a guy that had moved from St. Louis to the Lake Ozark area. He told me he had worked for TJ Wies but had to quit because of the move. He told me that TJ Wies was one of the best contractors to work for. So when I heard TJ Wies was expanding to Mid-Missouri I jumped at the chance to go work for them. Everything this guy told me was true. And I have never regretted my decision.
